Olam Agri Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Vocational Training for Women in the Bafoussam Municipality

-

The primary objectives of this programme were to increase awareness and educate the community about breast and prostate cancer, including risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of early detection. An oncologist from the regional hospital led an informative awareness session, while BEHFA Health partnered with us to promote healthy lifestyles for women and their families. The vocational training, supported by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF) and conducted by the Association for the Promotion of Young People in Difficulty (APROJED), equipped over 60 women with valuable skills. At the conclusion of the training, certificates were awarded to all participants and their trainers.

The event was graced by the presence of the 3rd Deputy Mayor of Bafoussam, who expressed her gratitude to Olam Agri for their commitment to the community. She highlighted the significance of the training in providing additional income for women and emphasised the timely discussions on breast and prostate cancer.

Ashu Ma-Mbeng Success, Head of Corporate Communications at Olam Agri, reiterated the company’s dedication to making a positive impact in the communities. She emphasised that this is one of many socially responsible activities aimed at improving the lives of women and their families. The inclusion of a nutrition company (BEHFA Health) to educate women on healthier food choices is an extension of Olam Agri’s internal Workforce Nutrition programme to local communities.

“This training has given me hope and a new skill that I can use to support my family. I am grateful to Olam Agri for this opportunity. Learning to make breast prostheses and wigs has not only empowered me but also allowed me to help others in my community who are battling cancer,” said Feli Wafo Dilanie, a participant of the training.

This initiative marks a significant step in Olam Agri’s ongoing efforts to support and uplift the communities we serve, reinforcing our commitment to health, education, and economic empowerment.
