Olam Agri Awards Scholarships to 50 Outstanding Students and Donates School Supplies to Bekoko Community

-

(PUBLIREPORTAGE) – Olam Agri, a leading agribusiness in food, feed, and fibre, has reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development by awarding scholarships to 50 outstanding students and donating essential school supplies to over 1,000 children, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), in the Bekoko community.

This initiative aims to support access to quality education for children who face financial barriers and lack basic learning materials. Each child received a pack containing notebooks, pens, pencils, rulers, and glue items crucial for effective learning. The scholarship programme, totalling 1,500,000 CFA, was awarded to 50 high-achieving students to help ease the burden of school fees and encourage academic excellence.

In addition to the educational support, Olam Agri has undertaken infrastructural improvements at Bekoko Public School. The company facilitated the spreading of pozzoland soil and levelling of the school compound to mitigate flooding and improve accessibility, particularly during the rainy season. This intervention ensures a safer and more conducive learning environment for students and staff. Olam Agri also revisited its waste management initiative previously launched at the school, conducting a refresher session for students and donating additional waste bins to promote environmental sustainability and hygiene.

His Royal Majesty Chief Nguime Ekollo, Traditional Ruler of Bekoko, and Her Royal Highness Susan Nguime Ekollo, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Olam Agri for its continued dedication to the community. “We are deeply grateful for the company’s unwavering support and generous contributions towards the development of Bekoko,” they stated.

Echoing the sentiment of teachers and school children, Madam Clara, a teacher at Bekoko Public School, said: “Thank you, Olam Agri, for your consistent support. Last year, you refurbished our school toilets, and this year you’ve returned with even more. The school compound was flooded, and we were concerned about how the children would access the premises. Your intervention has resolved this. The donation of school supplies and bags for IDP children is a blessing. This support will significantly enhance their learning experience. We are truly grateful.”

Madam Briginette Abega, Country HR Manager at Olam Agri, who was present at the event, remarked: “We are honoured to be part of this initiative. At Olam Agri, we believe in empowering communities and investing in the future of our children. These young minds are the leaders of tomorrow, and we are proud to contribute to their growth and success. We remain committed to supporting education and community development across Cameroon.”

This initiative is part of Olam Agri’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which focuses on education, infrastructure, and sustainability to foster inclusive growth and long-term impact in the communities it serves.
